Discover three delicious ways to prepare ceremonial cacao for energy, stress relief, and hormone balance.

Key points

  1. Energy Boost Without Jitters:
    • Ceremonial cacao contains theobromine, a gentle stimulant that creates a sense of sustained energy without the jittery side effects of caffeine. If you struggle with afternoon dips or sweet cravings then the switch from coffee to cacao would be of huge benefit to remedying these.
  2. Stress Reduction and Mood Support:
    • Rich in magnesium and tryptophan, ceremonial cacao helps relax muscles, reduce stress and support the production of serotonin, promoting a calm and uplifted mood. This can be especially helpful in the winter months when lower levels of sunlight exposure cause lower levels of serotonin. Which is the actual mechanism behind the winter blues!
  3. Hormone Balance and Weight Management:
    • Many people scoff at this but having chocolate (100% cacao) in the morning rather than coffee can help you lose weight! The nutrients in cacao support hormonal balance by calming the adrenal system and reducing cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Additionally, its appetite-regulating properties promotes higher levels of satiety and reduces cravings.

1. Classic Pure Ceremonial Cacao

Ingredients:

  • 15g ceremonial cacao
  • 150-200ml hot water (just below boiling, about 175°F or 80°C)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Cacao: Chop the cacao paste into small pieces for easy melting.
  2. Blend: Add the cacao and hot water to a blender (or use a whisk in a bowl). Blend until smooth and frothy.
  3. Serve: Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!

2. Ceremonial Cacao with Milk of Choice

Ingredients:

  • 15g ceremonial cacao paste
  • 50ml hot water (175°F or 80°C)
  • 60-80ml milk of choice (e.g. dairy, pure soya, nut or coconut milk)
  • 1-2 tablespoons collagen powder (optional - if using non-dairy milk then this addition will prevent any milk separation)

Instructions:

  1. Melt Cacao: Chop the cacao and blend it with hot water until smooth.
  2. Heat Milk: Warm chosen milk and froth it if desired.
  3. Combine: Mix the frothed milk into the prepared cacao. Stir gently and enjoy.

3. Ceremonial Cacao with Coffee and Collagen

Ingredients:

  • 15g ceremonial cacao paste
  • 1-2 shots coffee
  • 50ml hot milk of choice or hot water (175°F or 80°C)
  • 1-2 tablespoons collagen powder (optional - if using non-dairy milk then this addition will prevent any milk separation)

Instructions:

  1. Blend Cacao: Chop the cacao and blend it with the hot water until fully dissolved and frothy.
  2. Add Coffee: Pour in the coffee.
  3. Incorporate Collagen: Stir in the collagen powder until fully dissolved.

Serve: Pour into your cup and enjoy!
